Alcoves
Alcove units typically consist of a set of cupboards at the base with shelving above, providing a myriad of display and storage options transforming rooms into organised, tidy and tranquil spaces.
The perfect place to position your television and lamp, showcase your treasured family photographs, ornaments and books as well as providing hidden accommodation for electronic equipment and useful storage space.
They can be either modern, contemporary, minimalist, traditional, Edwardian, Victorian, Regency or Georgian in style.
With modern, contemporary and minimalist alcove units the doors tend to be flush with a shadow gap and concealed soft-close hinges so creating clean straight lines. Floating shelves then complement the cupboards. Sometimes the alcove unit is build inside a whole carcass, and this offers up the option of adjustable shelves, using either pre-drilled holes or book case strips. Stylish knobs/handles or 'no-handles' will then complete the look.
Traditional Edwardian, Victorian, Regency or Georgian style alcove units have panelled doors, either shaker style or using a profile moulding to match the existing moulding of the room. Either butt hinges or concealed soft-close hinges are used. Shelves are typically supported by battens. Again the alcove unit can be build inside a whole carcass, and this offers up the option of adjustable shelves, using either pre-drilled holes or book case strip. To complete the look the perimeter of the entire alcove can be lined with a moulding matching the cupboard below. Stylish period knob or handles would suit.
Discreet under-shelf concealed lighting on either a movement sensor or a switch, and power sockets, can be incorporated.
Typically we prefer to fabricate the doors and carcasses in our workshop and then assemble them on site.
Our alcove units are normally made with moisture resistant MDF, and then painted by us or the client, but we can use any timber material or wood, including soft or hard wood, melamine faced chipboard or MDF, veneered or stained MDF or veneered plywood. See Finishes.
We can design and make any combination of cupboards and shelves to suit your own needs and provide your home with plenty of storage.
